2 baseball teams eye City of Palms Park

Jeff Lytle's views and news

"Play ball!'' may return to Fort Myers' City of Palms Park after all.

Lee County Commissioner John Manning says two teams are considering taking the place of the Boston Red Sox, who are moving across town to JetBlue Park, now under construction off Daniels Parkway.

Manning declined to name the other teams, saying only that one is now based in Florida for spring training. That would mean the other team works out in Arizona.

Manning, who made the comments after a "Naples Daily NewsMakers'' taping at the studios of the Daily News, called the prospects "a long shot'' and declined to discuss the matter on camera.

The City of Palms site is also under consideration for conversion into a swimming training complex.
