Florida: The Escape Portal
I just read a novel that is a great classical historical fiction: A Land Remembered by P. Smith. It’s a story of a very poor family who fled Georgia before the outbreak of the Civil War in the 1850’s to avoid the terror of those times. It deals with the trials and tribulations of three generations of that family who sought a peaceful new life in Florida, a State virtually un-occupied at that time. The novel ends in the 1960’s in Ft Myers with somewhat of a surprise ending; but with redeeming social values.
This novel is a symbol of people like me, and perhaps you, who for over 150 years have escaped the high pressure lifestyle of the northern states and pursued a more casual life in sunny Florida. Since I moved to Florida, 22 years ago, 1000 people per day have followed to seek out a better and more tranquil life.
Florida for all the negative commentary: heat, humidity, mosquitoes, and wild life has not lost its appeal for a better life. In the past several years Florida has seen a decline in property values due to a national and local economic downturn, but it appears to be rebounding as of late. Florida is no longer just a place for older persons to come to retire.
Naples and Collier County residents are fortunate that the vision of past County Commissioners have helped make our community a great place to bring up a family. This success was in spite of them making some very unpopular decisions in the past. The best of their planning included: museums, parks, sports and recreation facilities, most of which are free. The high quality of maintenance to the public areas and beaches create the aesthetics that have only enhanced its attraction for families and businesses. It is easy to feel the euphoria of living here.
While Florida has been an Escape Portal for the pressures of life from the fast paced northern states, Naples has become more than that. It is a place to bring up a family in communities that offer so much to promote a healthy lifestyle with fine schools, including several noteworthy colleges. Businesses should note this is a great environment to establish and grow. Naples and Southwest Florida can attract the talent they need from all parts of the globe including the young talented and skilled residents in the area.
In my view, Naples is truly the center of the Florida Escape Portal; and there is no better time for businesses to establish a presence here and grow. Investment opportunities in Naples real estate are exciting at least; and profitable at best! A win, win situation!
Naples is: A Place to Remember!
