The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer team returned to the field Thursday afternoon, playing the University of Tampa to a scoreless tie in an exhibition match at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
The Eagles are coming off an 11-7 debut season and a third-place finish in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Tampa won the Division II national championship last year.
“Overall I feel really good about our performance today,” FGCU coach Jim Blankenship said. “We looked very comfortable with each other and we moved the ball well. With 13 new freshmen, we came together and played well.”
FGCU will play a final exhibition match at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at home against Nova Southeastern.
The Eagles open the regular season at home Aug. 22 against Florida Atlantic.
