— Leonard Hankerson had 3 touchdown receptions and the offense scored 7 to 8 touchdowns on Tuesday night in Miami's last scrimmage of the fall camp, which was closed.

Randy Shannon wouldn't say who his starting quarterback will be when the Hurricanes play Charleston Southern in nine days, but the expectations are that redshirt freshman Robert Marve will start over prep school transfer Cannon Smith and true freshman Jacory Harris.

"We worked every aspect that we can to get done and now we have to take the next step and get ready for Charleston Southern," Shannon said.

Shannon, who said he would name the starting quarterback 7 to 10 days before the starter, said he didn't have a timetable after the scrimmage as to when he would announce his decision.

He did say that they "were doing well," but did not make them available after to talk about their performances.

Running back Shawnbrey McNeal had about a 50-yard run, while fellow back Derron Thomas had a touchdown reception.

Thomas carried most of the load for the backfield, while expected starters Graig Cooper and Javarris James of Immokalee sat on the sideline.

Shannon has been spelling most of the veteran players during the scrimmages to evaluate the younger corps that came in this season.

Hankerson scored one of his touchdowns in the final two minutes of the scrimmage, juking 2 to 3 defenders on his way to the goal line.

"I think we did pretty good as an offense," tight end Chris Zellner said.

Notes: DB Randy Phillips, WR Tommy Streeter, DE Eric Moncur, DE Allen Bailey did not practice on Tuesday.

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
