NAPLES All Collier County public schools will open on Wednesday morning.
The district said Tuesday afternoon the schools are safe and ready to welcome students back.
A decision on the need to make up the missed hurricane day will be made at a later date.
The school year was supposed to start today but was postponed by Tropical Storm Fay.

It just seems so wrong to require students head out when there is still substantial standing water. Out in GGE, my driveway is about a foot and a half under water.my kids and many others catching the bus will be treading in these conditions.cars and buses will be competing on roads that should be left clear for emergency workers and clean-up crews.

Yeah I just don't understand the mentality of these people. Is somebody going to die if little johhny is two days late to school?
As far as making the day up, give me a break. How many days do teachers work for free just to get ready for school?

Don't start with the teachers work for free .

I would much happier send my kids to school on a make up day in fine weather than sending them tomorrow with flooded roadways and more rain forcasted...I too am supposed to report to work in the morning...who will cover my expenses if my car floods out or fishtails on a wet road?
They should truly consider these safety factors now...it won't be covered on the FCAT, but still more useful in real life
I'm just sayin'

to totally blame crime on a delinquent's parents is unfair...and perhaps inaccurate. by our laws, a child must attend school until he is at least 16. being at school for much of the daytime, kids are at school longer than with their family in their formative years...wouldn't that make a school setting more likely to influence a child's behaviour?
my decision to leave my children at home tomorrow is not disputing whether children need an education..of course they do.. but it is the first day of school...i'd rather my kids miss the "hello my name is" and "this is where you put you pencil cubby" than fend themselves in a tropical storm aftermath..
again, i'm just sayin'

RG
If everybody followed your reasoning, there would never be accidents to report...BUT THERE ARE
I am a safe driver with a clear history. As such, I have always made it a point to not go out on the road when circumstances raise the risk of accidents.
My kids have learned from me to protect themselves. They know to avoid any circumstance that poses potential danger.
Now
would you say that driving and/or walking to a bus stop in the dark with the road completely under water in an area that has many fallen tree branches, some on powerlines does or does not pose a potential danger?
I say the roads should be free from un-needed activity while the utility and clean up crews do their thing

There's always the option of homeschooling, which looks sweeter by the minute in Collier County.

Quit whining and get your kid to school- this ain't a perfect world- life's hard and the strong survive and become leaders while all the others become whimps and followers!
