— Florida Firecats defensive back Carlos Campbell has been named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Daytona Beach ThunderBirds last Saturday at Germain Arena.

Campbell, 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds from Notre Dame, was a difference-maker on defense to help the Firecats dominate their division rivals, 87-27. The second-year player finished with five total tackles (3 solos, 4 assists), two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three pass breakups and two interceptions. Campbell returned his second interception of the night 51 yards for a touchdown.

This is Campbell’s second Defensive Player of the Week Award in the last four weeks. He also won the award for his performance in the Firecats 41-35 win at Daytona Beach.

“Carlos had a tremendous game last week,” Firecats head coach Kevin Bouis said. “Since coming back from his injury, he has hit his stride and is really playing well going into the playoffs.”

Campbell missed five games in the middle of the season after his injuring his knee. Despite missing a significant amount of time, he was able to finish the regular season with a team-leading nine interceptions, the second highest single-season total in Firecats history. He returned three of those interceptions for touchdowns. Campbell also tied for the team lead in fumble recoveries (3) and finished second in total tackles with 53.5.

The Florida Firecats play their first playoff game on Saturday at the Tennessee Valley Vipers in Huntsville, Ala., at 8:30 p.m. ET. The game will be on Sportsradio 770 (WWCN-AM) or can be viewed live at FloridaFirecats.com.

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
