For Mike Scott, the heavy lifting is over. When he beat his predecessor, Rod Shoap, for the Republican nomination for re-election as Lee County sheriff in August, the lone obstacle to four more years was an unknown with no party affiliation.
That candidate, Christian Meister, is unprepared for the serious work of this office.
So, in the Nov. 4 general election, for which early voting starts Monday, Lee County voters can be assured Scott is the clear choice to tackle Lee’s serious crime challenges.
Scott enjoys a good, respectful working relationship with officials in the city of Bonita Springs, which contracts with the Sheriff’s Office for coverage. Scott is in sync with Bonita’s most pressing crime problems including drugs, robberies and prostitution.
Any voters upset with Scott for his conduct at the Sarah Palin rally at Germain Arena need to tell him in a way other than voting for Meister. Anyway, his gaffe was not for using Barack Hussein Obama’s full name. It was for calling it an odd name — different from a “Mike Scott” or “Jim Smith,” he said — and worthy of suspicion. That is a troubling signal from the supervisor of so many armed deputies with arrest powers.
On balance, Scott has been a good sheriff.
And his opponent is not a viable option.
■ Who can vote? All 319,000 voters in Lee County.

1. The problem with's Scott appearance on the stage of a political rally, making a partisan speach, is that he did it in the uniform of a Lee County Sheriff's Officer, in violation of the Hatch act. Is he really saying that his officers are free to appear in uniform to work for a political cause? Will he allow them to appear on the stage at an Obama rally in uniform?
2. If Scott is doing a "good job" fighting crime in Lee county then God help us all, because if this is a good job what would the County be like without him? It is already a war zone up there with nightly murders, etc. and it is not going to be getting any better with the economy going down hill.
It is time for this "El Duce" wanna be to go away or be sent away.

Agreed. Mike Mussolini Scott is a bum who cannot be trusted to enforce the law.
Recall this creep before he does real damage.

My choice, for a cost-effective and qualified sheriff, is Christian MEISTER.

Mr Scott was hired to, and pledged to, uphold the laws of the land for us. Instead he chose to break them. What kind of a situation is it where you recommend him as your choice when it's obvious he choses not to do his job? What will happen when the forces investigating him indict and convict him? What will it cost us to replace him?

I can not in good conscious vote for Mike Scott. He embarrassed Lee County nationally. It is not the job of our sheriff to get in the national news for all the wrong reasons.
His excuse for this would fly if he had said John Sidney McCain, or Sarah Louisa Heath Palin, he didn't. If you read into his non-apology, he obviously thinks the people of lee county are as stupid and ignorant as he is...
If Obama had the middle name 'Joseph' like Scott does, do you really think he would use it? I think not. Did Scott, who was in uniform, do anything about the people in the crowd yelling 'kill him' directed at Obama? No.
I have no problem that he was at a political rally supporting his party. It's just the way he chose to do it.
The only way I have to protest his actions is my vote, and I plan to exercise that Nov 4.
