NAPLES Baseball Hall of Famer Johnny Bench will headline the two-day Ave Maria University Golf Classic on Nov. 6-7.
The former Cincinnati Reds catcher was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in January 1989 with the fourth highest percentage of total votes cast.
The Sixth Annual Golf Classic combines a silent auction and dinner with a golf tournament. Bench will be the guest speaker at the Pairings Dinner/Silent Auction on Nov. 6 at The Club at Mediterra in North Naples, and comes to the tournament courtesy of Fifth Third Bank. The cocktails and silent auction are at 6 p.m., with dinner and a live auction at 7 p.m.
He will also participate in the golf tournament, which will be played at The Golf Club at Del Webb in Ave Maria, on Nov. 7. Registration and a continental breakfast are at 7 a.m., with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. A luncheon follows golf.
The Golf Classic will raise money toward scholarships for students who would not otherwise be able to attend Ave Maria University. This charity tournament has raised nearly $600,000 in the past five years.
Individual golf/dinner tickets can be purchased for $450 per person or $1600 per foursome. For more information, contact Lori Cook North at 239-287-0780.
