Naples' Natalie McNicholas shot a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for sixth after the first round of stroke play at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday. McNicholas bogeyed her final two holes.
Naples' Mary Jane Hiestand, a Hideout Golf Club member, had a 6-over 78 and is tied for 37th. Bonita Springs' Jan Phillips shot an 86 and is tied for 117th.
The low 64 after Sunday's second round advance to match play at Barton Hills Country Club. There are 132 players in the field.
