LEE COUNTY — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a quick change artist who has stolen nearly $2,000 from two south Lee County banks.
According to a Sheriff’s Office release:
On two different occasions, the suspect entered the bank and told tellers he wanted to exchange $2,700 in $50 bills for $100 bills.
When the tellers handed the suspect the $100 bills, he asked for Euros. The tellers explained Euros would take time to retrieve, so the suspect handed back the $100 bills, took his $50 bills and walked out of the banks.
Later, the tellers realized the suspect had not given back all of the $100 bills, walking away with $900 from the Wachovia Bank at 8700 Corkscrew Road in Estero and $1,000 from Regions Bank located at 24836 South Tamiami Trail in Bonita Springs.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 foot 8 inches tall and 280 pounds. He spoke with a European, possibly German, accent.
If you can identify this suspect, call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 477-1000. Or, to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000, call Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS.

"What’s a bank teller?", my students asked as I was telling them "I was one 25 years ago". I had to laugh, I haven’t been in a bank as a customer for 10 years; and who goes into banks anymore (online banking is the norm).
Both of these tellers need to count cash - every time it leaves or goes into the cash drawer.
I hope this guy goes into the BOA in Berkshire lakes - the bank manager/tellers are as dumb as a box of rocks. They told me to go to a grocery store to have my $21 in coins counted. I guess bankers don't know how to count anymore - even with our bailout money.

That looks like Hans! or maybe Franz!
C'mon folks!
This is slower Southwest Florida.
Our tellers didn't stand a chance against a sleight-of-hand expert con man.
The accent was probably faked to fit the Euro slant on the con.

Well, the teller is partially responsible- she should have known to count it. no?

"Box of Rocks" above, what an insult...my bankers at 5/3 ARE dumber than yours,..I deal with 5 different locations, black, white, english as 3rd language, mgt, trainee, it makes no difference, dumber than Box of Rocks, exponentially..if 5/3 didnt have $4 bil in tarp funds, the lights would be off and xerox fdic copy taped to the door...

My guess is one of the card sharking Eastern Europeans that hang out at the Greyhound track have something to do with this or knows of this man. Ask the dealers there if they recognize him.

Tell your students that a 'bank teller' is someone who helps their mommy or daddy get money so they can have food in their belly.
And since you are a teacher, more than likely your account is over at Suncoast Credit Union, and since you wouldn't have a checking or savings account at BOA, they had every right to refuse to exchange your loose coin for you.

Bank tellers are the most underpaid link in the banking system yet are exposed to the greatest risk. Most banks have trimmed them down to one or two when it should take five tellers and you expect them to stop and count your twenty one dollars in change? Look at the antiquated equipment they are forced to use and the state of the art black and white cameras, finally remember when they actually had a BANK GUARD. Banks in Iraq are better equipped.

OMG - Naplessell you are right!! I was in the BOA in Berkshire just last week and I gave the teller my check to cash. So she counts out $600 and then counts it AGAIN and then her "manager" informs her to type the currency in the computer to verify for the "THIRD" time that she has the correct amount. THEN she types in the number of $100s, $50s, etc. She looks at her computer, makes a sign and places a $100 back into her drawer. So I just proceeded to let her look like a dumb a** and I let her count back to me the $500. I then spoke up after she was all proud of herself, and said "excuse me but the check was for $600". It was VERY STRANGE. This girl didnt' know basic math. It was pathetic!! You are right!!

Shame it wasn't Bank of America that took this loss in both cases. They've been ripping off their customers for years with fees for everything and lobbying hard against any reforms that might benefit the consumer. If you ever shake hands with a manager there, count your fingers afterwards....
