The death of a 46-year-old Naples woman who authorities say fell down a marble staircase inside a $4.5 million Gordon Drive home in June has been officially classified as an accident, the Naples Police Department reported.

Lisbet Alicia Engelsted died of a head trauma — or a blunt craniocerebral injury, according to her autopsy report.

“Her injuries are consistent with a fall,” Naples Lt. Robb Bock said, adding there was no reason to believe she was pushed down the stairs.

Toxicology tests listed Engelsted’s blood-alcohol level at 0.27 and 0.33, which are three to four times the legal driving limit of 0.08 in Florida, according to reports.

Engelsted’s body was discovered in a small pool of blood June 18, inside a home at 3200 Gordon Drive. The home belongs to Douglas Schumann, 66, who at one time dated Engelsted. However, at the time of her death they were just friends, he said.

Engelsted was living at his Gordon Drive home, while he lived at another. Records indicate that Schumann owned 13 homes in the Naples area at the time of Engelsted’s death.

“It was just a sad event, and that’s all I can really say,” said Schumann, who was traveling aboard a ship in the south of France when he learned Engelsted had died.

Schumann said he asked a friend to check on Engelsted when he couldn’t get her on the phone and learned that she had missed some appointments. Authorities were called to the home around 8:30 a.m. June 18.

Family members described Engelsted as a “serious athlete” who had become an enthusiastic triathlete. In January, she ran the Naples Daily News Half Marathon. But Schumann said Engelsted struggled with a personal demon — alcohol.

She attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings almost daily, he said, but sometimes succumbed to her cravings.

“She was not an unhappy person. She was a happy person,” Schumann said. “When we spoke last, which was a few hours before she passed away, she was in very high spirits.”

Naples police officially closed the case in October.

"Engelsted was living at his Gordon Drive home, while he lived at another." What the Frank! The article has two billion other mistakes. Shut down or hire some cockroaches to print news.

ed34145 writes:

LGoldstein....read the article again. It is stated correctly.
The author introduced Mr. Schumann then said that Engelsted (the woman) was living at his (Mr. Schumann's) home while he (Schumann) lived at another.

LGoldstein writes:

ed34145, "Engelsted was living at his Gordon Drive home, while he lived at another." What is correct about this statement? Once you enter the realm or absurd, all bets are off regarding interpretation.

She wasn't just drunk...she was CRUNK!

All joking aside, even a serious athlete can lose their balance in such an intoxicated state. It is an unfortunate loss.

First he said he asked a friend to check on her since he couldn't get her on the phone, then he says, "“When we spoke last, which was a few hours before she passed away, she was in very high spirits.” Confusing.

Cougartown, meet COPS.

I'll be the first to admit that journalism in Collier County is essentially absent and the Scrapps Rag should clean house... but when you actually think about what happened, this story is pretty depressing and telling for Naples.

Nasty (how many appointments do you miss BEFORE 8:30AM unless they were scheduled for 10 or 11PM the night before) cougar (dude is 20 yrs her senior) gets obliterated (.3 BAC) at house where her "buddy" put her up, meanwhile he's home at 4200 block working on his private jet charter service.

**Not a cougar in the strictest sense of the word, particularly in relation to the sugar daddy, but I'm presuming you all could imagine her at Blue Martini.

We are human beings, and each of us has problems & weaknesses. The delight that some of you take in mocking this tragic story is appalling and shows zero empathy for those involved.

Ms. Englested was a lovely and kind lady, who is missed by those who knew her. I would hope that those who post here remember that she left behind children, and loved ones, and to consider their feelings when comments are left.

And remember John 8:7 - "Let the person among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone..."

The most disturbing part of this story (after the disturbing, viscious comments by readers), is that AA and the press have since 1935 a handshake pact of ANONYMITY for alcholics. Just because her "boyfriend" broke her anonymity, the NDN didn't have to print it. A followup article with perhaps an alcohol toxicity number might have been appropriate, because I don't see anything from an authoritative official saying she was "drunk", just the speculation of a "boyfriend". Aloholics suffer from a disease and alcholism is rampant in America and especially Naples, which I think was the state of mind of most of the viscious commenters. Go to a meeting, sober up, and join the human race again.

If she fell off the roof of her trailer while that intoxicated would you be such a bleeding heart?
I highly doubt it.

The comments would be twice as vicious (and hilarious) and no one would be rationalizing her 'disease'
