The David Lawrence Center, Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit community mental health and substance abuse treatment facility, is pleased to announce that Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church has awarded the Center an $18,000 grant to fund the scholarship medication program. The scholarship medication program provides full or partially discounted psychotropic medications to disadvantaged adults and children in acute mental health crises and those with serious mental illnesses. The grant has been awarded through the funds provided to their Community Grant Commission by the Archangel Fund for Collier County Charities.

More and more people are experiencing mental health problems, while at the same time fewer people have employer-sponsored insurance plans, and fewer can afford to pay for care for themselves or their family members. As the cost of psychotropic medications continues to escalate sometimes as much $300 per month, Trinity-By-The Cove’s support will help David Lawrence Center continue to meet the needs of people with mental health problems who are disabled, at very low income and without insurance by providing the medications desperately needed to help manage their illnesses and live successfully in the community.

David Lawrence Center CEO David Schimmel states, “The David Lawrence Center and Foundation are very appreciative to Trinity-by-the-Cove for the unwavering, continued support of their parishioners and the leaders of their organization. These medications have a significant impact on the quality of life of those with a persistent mental illness. On behalf of the hundreds of clients who will benefit from these funds, we thank the Church for helping them remove cost as a barrier for getting the medications they desperately need to function effectively and lead happy, productive lives.”
