LEHIGH ACRES — Two teens face first-degree murder charges in the shooting deaths of a Lehigh Acres mother and son in their home a week ago.
Justin D. Wirth, 16, of the 4300 block of 13th Street West, Lehigh Acres, and Clayton T. Combs, 17, of the 19000 block of Ethel Drive, North Fort Myers, were arrested Saturday morning by Lee County sheriff's deputies.
A call the evening of April 9 about possible injuries at 3501 49th Street West led deputies to an open front door and a trail of blood and bullet casings in the home that 43-year-old Amy Ann Lorah shared with her son, William "Dalton" Haley, 16.
According to the agency, on April 8 an armed Wirth asked Combs to drive him to the house with the intent to rob and kill Haley. Reports indicate Wirth had visited Haley at the home before, and said Haley had pointed a gun at him.
Once at the home, Wirth shot and killed Haley then proceeded to Lorah's bedroom where he shot and wounded her, Lee sheriff’s officials said. She was shot twice more after staggering into the kitchen.
Wirth and Combs then stole a safe with a firearm and around $370 cash, sheriff's officials said. Wirth gave Combs $150 for his role in the killings and robbery, the Sheriff's Office said.
The 9mm handgun used was later sold for $140.
Authorities intend to charge Wirth and Combs each with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder and one count of home invasion robbery with a firearm. The pair was booked into Lee County Jail and will be turned over to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, according to the Lee Sheriff's Office.
