Editorial: No shell game if turtles stray under there

Nature

The always informative and helpful column by the staff of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida issues a reminder for those of us who use the Lely Barefoot Beach county park.

Please, as the signs there ask, look around and under your vehicle in the parking lot before leaving.

Gopher tortoises congregate at the preserve and can get crunched if they seek shade under your car.

The Conservancy column showed graphic evidence of the damage a car tire can do to a turtle shell, and the clinic is unable to offer any help other than euthanasia.

So please, take a moment to check. You will be making the world a safer and more interesting place.

So glad to know someone else cares. Most would rather run them and those of us over, who try to move them out of harms way. The world is pretty sick, and getting worse.
