Letter: That is all

Marian M. Lauck, Naples

That is all

President Barack Obama tells us to pay more taxes to fund entitlements for others.

But why is the happiness of others important and good, but not our own?

It is not the job of government to tax us to "subsidize" and decide what's "fair."

Government's job is to provide only those services that the free market cannot: roads, sewers, streetlights, the legislature and judiciary, and the common defense.

Amen.

What President Obama tells us is that the consequences of President Bush letting the wealthy out of their responsibility to help pay for his wars and his devastated economy is unaffordable as evidenced by the massive debt that we have accrued on that path.

That "more for me and less for you" is not the American way.

That investment in growth has always worked for us and running from responsibility, never has.

Oh, really? I'd say the legislatures have been pretty much privatized, and anything left belonging to the public is disappearing after the Citizens United decision.
