A white Nissan doing 99 mph on Alligator Alley attracted the attention of a state trooper Friday night, who says he found more than 2½ pounds of cocaine in the trunk and marijuana in the driver’s sock.

Eric Renaldo Williams, 27, of Tampa, faces up to 30 years in a state prison without release for 15 years if convicted of the cocaine possession charge, a first-degree felony, and 15 years for felony possession with intent to sell. He is being held in the Collier County jail on $21,750 bond.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Trooper J.R. Moore was on patrol near mile-marker 95, when he spotted the car eastbound and estimated it was doing 100 mph, a report says. He turned on his radar, which showed 99 mph and stopped the car on the shoulder.

The driver who gave his name as Titus Williams said he’d left his license at home and his “auntie” owned the car. But the trooper checked his fingerprints and discovered that was a bogus name and birthdate, his license was suspended and he was wanted in Hillsborough County on a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Due to a strong marijuana odor, the report says, the trooper searched the car and found the roughly 2½-pound brick of cocaine, tightly wrapped in a backpack in the trunk. As he continued searching, Williams yelled to him and let him take off his shoe, where there was about a one-quarter ounce of marijuana stashed in a plastic bag in his sock.

Williams also was charged with driving with a suspended license, a third-degree felony, and misdemeanor counts of providing a false name and marijuana possession.

Hillsborough court records show his record includes a conviction for misdemeanor marijuana possession in October and providing a false name to a law enforcement officer and driving with a suspended license in 2010.

It never ceases to amaze me that when drug runners carry drugs across the state, they either have a tag light or tail light out, or are speeding. You would think the thought of prison time for carrying that massive amount of cocaine and pot would make them so paranoid they would make sure not to speed and make sure the car was all legal. Stupidity alone should put his butt in jail...

This guy was probably a decoy , and 500lbs or more prob went by while they were busy with him, and if an illegal search is found to have been conducted the guy walks on the drug charge.

Yes, Im quite sure this bozo gave up 30 years of his life for "the cause." Sounds like a completely legal search to me!

It won't be an illegal stop since this guy was doing 99 mph. So foolish!! The prison time on these offenses are hefty. He would be better off running like the wind.

The stop and the arrest were ok, but depending what the officer said happened, he MAY have needed a search warrent to look in the trunk and the back pack. If his safety wasnt endangered, and urgency wasnt an issue. Thats all im saying.
