Cape Coral’s Chase Marinell holds a one-stroke lead after Friday’s first round of the Florida Open at the Ritz-Carlton Members Golf Club and Sara Bay Country Club in Bradenton and Sarasota.
Marinell, playing at Sara Bay, posted a seven-under par 65, including an eagle on the par-5 No. 17 in his bogey-free round.
Three players are tied for second, including 2012 Florida State Amateur Champion Chase Seiffert of Panama City, Chris Kaufman of Coral Springs and Paul Scaletta of Jupiter.
Nic Ondriska had the top score among Naples golfers, shooting a 70 to land in a seven-way tie for 16th. Windstar pro Dan Heaslip was at 71 in a 13-way tie for 23rd. That group includes Fort Myers’ Airik Medinis, who won the Florida Open qualifier at Eagle Creek Country Club earlier this month.
Imperial’s John Lee shot a 73, while Hideout’s Gene Fieger was at 74 and Naples’ Jared Blocker was at 75.
