When President Barack Obama takes the stage in Fort Myers this morning, the middle class will once again be on his mind.

Obama will visit the Harborside Event Center in Fort Myers today to hold a public rally. The stop is the third in a two-day swing through the state, and campaign officials have said his speech — schedule to begin around 11:20 a.m. — will focus on "how to grow the economy, create middle-class jobs and pay down the debt."

He spent Thursday spreading a similar message in Jacksonville and West Palm Beach.

The first leg of the tour was spent in search of military veterans, seniors and unaligned voters in Jacksonville. There, the president broadened his attack on Republican challenger Mitt Romney's support for a House Republican plan that would change Medicare from a fee-for-service program into one where future retirees would buy insurance using government subsidies.

"He plans to turn Medicare into a voucher program," Obama said. "So if that voucher isn't worth enough to buy health insurance that's on the market, you're out of luck. You're on your own ... We shouldn't be squeezing more money out of seniors who are just barely getting by right now."

The president also stuck to an economic message, and in the hours leading up to the president's Jacksonville visit, the White House announced it was speeding up expansion projects at five major U.S. ports, including two in Florida.

While Obama was speaking in Jacksonville, supporters in Fort Myers took to the press to express their support for the president and his message.

Campaign staff held a news conference Thursday to discuss how the president's tax cuts have affected their lives. That news conference featured three Lee County residents who benefited from the tax cuts.

All three speakers were Obama supporters and planned to attend the Fort Myers rally.

Bridgett Ashford, a Cape Coral resident, said tax cuts the president put in place have helped her family, particularly her daughter and son.

"With my husband and I both having jobs, the tax cuts allows me to help (my children out) when they're in dire need," she said.

Ashford said her son has to work two jobs just to make ends meet, and any little bit helps him and his family.

Jennifer Lessinger, a Fort Myers resident, echoed that refrain. The mother of three said she wanted to be a part of Thursday's news conference to "make sure that people are aware of the benefits they are receiving because Obama is in office."

"In my family, we have a policy that we all contribute and ... my belief is that is an American way of life," she said. "Everyone should contribute their fair share, and I really think that is the right path to take."

Lessinger said the tax relief her family has received made all the difference in their day-to-day life.

"As a result of the tax cuts we've received thousands of dollars of dollars of relief," she said.

After the president's stop in Jacksonville, he headed to West Palm Beach. There he made a pitch to seniors at the Century Village, a retirement community that's long been a bastion of reliable Democratic voters.

In speaking to a largely Jewish audience in West Palm Beach, Obama said the nation was "heartbroken" over the terrorist attack launched against Israeli tourists in Bulgaria and said his administration hadn't "just preserved the unbreakable bond with Israel, we have strengthened it."

While Obama spent the day making stump speeches around the state, his opponent spent the day focusing on economic recovery. Romney told reporters near Boston that government figures show the number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits rose by 34,000 last week.

He also mocked Obama for not having met with his advisory jobs council in six months while holding more than 100 fundraisers in the same time-frame.

"I think you've learned something about the president's priorities," he said. "The job he's interested in protecting is his own."

Today's visit will be the second time Obama has been in Fort Myers. He was last here in 2009 to rally support for his $800-billion stimulus program.

Ashford said she's hopeful the event will get Southwest Floridians excited about the upcoming election.

"I truly believe in what Obama is trying to do," she said. "We need to speak out, the ones who are backing him and feel that he is on the right path, to encourage people to stop, listen, learn and then get out the vote."

Obama Ad Accuses Romney of 'Launching a False Attack' for Quoting Obama...

"Mitt Romney is launching a false attack," the ad's text states. But the weird thing is: The Obama campaign is purposefully trying to make it sound like Romney is misquoting the president, when the official White House transcript backs up Romney's quotation.

In the ad, Romney says that Obama revealed his thoughts on business when he said this, "If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen."

And, in fact, according to official White House transcript that's precisely what Obama said on July 13, 2012 in Roanoke, Virginia.

Ruger,
Thanks for illustrating well what idiots you, Quagmire, BeachGlow, BudLite and others are for blindly following right winged crap. The fact is that you already have an opinion of Obama and are looking for every ounce of justification that you can find to support your hatred. You people breed hatred and laugh at it.

Obama's quote was taken out of context and the quote is not the complete statement that Obama made. Yes, Romeny's add is a false attack because he is claiming that Obama said something that he did not say. Yes, the quote is correct, but the quote is only part of the sentence. The quote continues to list the different means of outside help that a business owner gets when creating and maintaining a business.

So keep spreading your moronic lies and let the other idiots blindly follow you. We know what republicans are like: either moronic prejudices a-holes or greedy wealthy a-holes. Either way, I'm happy to not be one of you!

The first 2 years of Obama were focused on shoving a crooked so-called affordable health care law down our throats & paving the way for more homosexual rights, etc.

This guy, and his divisive & immoral policies, have been a total disaster for America. It is obvious that the likes of Obama do not fit in a nation like the U.S. He would be a better fit in a communist nation or perhaps some African nation.

Somebody else, Mr. President? Who, exactly? Government?

There is a deep ideological reason why Obama’s campaign is not likely to succeed in 2012. It’s not just a negative campaign against Romney, but also a negative campaign against capitalism and more importantly success.

It's not just that the President's campaign is overreaching with their negative attacks. They are specifically overreaching with their negative attacks on America's venerable history of individualism and self reliance leading to success.

Achieving the American dream by working harder than the other guy, or by educating yourself to be smarter is rarely diminished by anyone, especially a sitting President.

Hey Willoughby, Romney doesn't want to release his tax returns as he says it would be more "AMMO" for the Democrats, right? How is your "AMMO" arsenal these days? You have been kind of quiet on that subject lately. Hopefully, you don't like Batman movies.

whalling writes:

"If you've got a business. You did't build it. Somebody else built that." These are his exact words in a campaign speech yesterday. He went on to say the government should get the credit for the business. At first I thought he was nuts, but then I realized it is just his socialist blood leaking out through his mouth. He believes government makes all things possible and should get credit for everything. The person who has the idea, works hard, invests his money, hires people, budgets, takes risks, makes sales and makes profits only does so because of the government. He belongs in Greece or France or Karl Marx's Russia. His staff is trying to walk these comments back, but don't let them fool us as this is what he believes and any influence he has on America is, therefore, going to be damaging. So many of us wonder why he is letting the debt go so high and why he incurs enormous deficits. We then wonder why he does not do anything about it, no leadership to reduce debt or deficits. Does he just not understand what is happening, is he too busy campaigning to see it, or does he know exactly what he is doing and doing it intentionally? Certainly, Obamacare was intentional and it takes over 18% government control of our entire economy and adds over a trillion dollars of debt. Certainly the stimulus was intentional as it redistributed a trillion dollars of our money after borrowing it from the Chinese. My conclusion is that he knows exactly what he is doing and we are ever closer to full socialism. We must change leadership in November.

The President cultivates an ideology that says if you haven't been able to achieve success, it is by no means your fault.

This is the crux of his remarks in what many refer to as the Roanoake incident last week, where he infamously revealed, "If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen?"

He's not-so-subtly exploiting people who feel victimized either by circumstance or choice, then blames political opponents for their lack of prosperity, and finally offers himself up as their societal redemption.

Obama's campaign strategy diminishes the American dream by not crediting the person who works harder than the other guy, or by educating themselves to be smarter - something rarely done by any candidate, much less a sitting President.
