Editorial: Making dreams come true, on a budget

Congratulations to teachers at Lorenzo Walker Technical High School who go the extra mile for their students.

Joann Cassio and Donna Huprich care enough about them to organize an on-campus boutique for young women to select prom dresses donated by the community.

The teachers know how expensive dresses can be and how that could post an obstacle and keep some students from these very special events.

The prom dress project is not as easy as it sounds. Similar, communitywide projects have come and gone. The Daily News even floated a trial balloon a few weeks ago to gauge community support for a revival. We were met with several offers to donate dresses or help in other, modest ways, but no one was able to step up and take charge as these teachers have done.

A former spark plug for a communitywide dress project tells us she will re-volunteer for that big chore in advance of prom season 2013. The Daily News stands by to get out the good word, at the very least.

In the meantime, let's give Cassio and Huprich another round of applause and save a special dance just for them at the prom.
