One killed in head-on crash with semi near Ave Maria

One person was killed and a 14-year-old is in critical condition after their vehicle collided with a semi Monday night near Ave Maria.

Emil Kelly Altidor, 42, of the Naples area, was driving a 1987 Toyota pickup north on Camp Keais Road approaching Immokalee Road around 7:15 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. At the same time, Ernesto Alvarez Blanco, 55, also of the Naples area, was driving a semi south on Camp Keais.

The Toyota traveled onto the east shoulder, at which point Altidor overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, which traveled into the semi’s lane, reports said. The front of the semi struck the front passenger side of the Toyota.

Altidor was killed at the scene. Kenny Altidor, 14, a passenger in the Toyota, was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition, reports said. Blanco was not injured in the wreck.

Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

I said a prayer for the 14-year-old... I imagine that the adult who passed away was his dad or uncle. So sad. Poor kid.

Sory to hear about the crash. Too bad Immokalee road wasnt 6 laned instead of Oil Well Road, this is heavily used - thanks Coletta!

The accident happened on Camp Keais Road, not Immokalee Road according to the NDN article..

Prayers to all involved

That road out to Immokolee really needs to be fixed. People run on it like a superhiway 7 iits'a abckwater road with all these little side roads popping out.

There is a casino out there. People go there, get looped, get really PO'ed about losing their sirts to the casinos & drive like idiots.

NCH is not a trauma center, Lee Memorial is, and the closest one to the accident scene.
