An East Naples man told Daily News partner NBC2 he came within feet of a 12-foot python in his own backyard.

"It's really surprising to see something that big in your backyard," said Rick Dominicks, who lives on Greenway Road, off U.S. 41 East about three miles south of the Collier Boulevard intersection.

Landscapers spotted the snake while doing yard work. Dominicks said he went out too look and mistakenly got too close.

"I started scooping the brush off of him and he poked his head up, and I said, ‘whoa!'" Dominicks said.

Dominicks shot and killed the python before it could make a move.

I'd take all the precautions in the world if I had a child in a crib in that area .You know there are a lot more of those pythons out in the glades .An all out effort needs to be taken to come up with how to eradicate them before another death occurs ,much like the pet python a few years ago killed a child .
