Boater dies after falling into Lake Okeechobee

BELLE GLADE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a boater is dead after falling into Lake Okeechobee.

The Palm Beach Post reports divers from the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue pulled the man from the lake Monday night.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera says the man had been boating on the lake when he fell.

Rescue crews received the call after 7:30 p.m. Monday. Three divers went into the water and found the man, who was taken to a hospital around 8:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Most days on the lake, the open water is too rough for the Ranger bass boats to travel wide open, so these idiots run blindly through thick reeds, 4 to 5 foot tall at speeds exceeding 50 mph. It amazes me that more folks do not die.
