Friday, Jan. 9, 2009
With unemployment rates on the rise, and many experts predicting the situation will only get worse, it’s safe to say that now is not the best time to be looking for a job.

While most of her friends are either looking for jobs, planning for graduate school or haven’t even started a job search, Carlos has already landed a position. Full story »

Keepin' You Afloat: Weekly Boating Tip
Friday, Jan. 9, 2009
Most catastrophic boat engine problems are heat related. Cooling system failure can be avoided with periodic water dump inspection and by simply replacing worn impellers with new components. Bigger boats have a water pressure gauge or a water temperature gauge on the console. If your boat doesn’t come equipped with one, the engine itselft will have at a minimum a warning signal or beeper built in. Full story »

Bonita woman builds business on a lost art
Friday, Jan. 9, 2009
Barbara Singer-Boocher is a positive, vivacious woman.
Her attitude is contagious, especially when you talk about one of her true passions: art. Her expertise is in lettering and watercolor painting.
“I’m an artist. I’m pretty fulfilled,” says Singer-Boocher before breaking into a giggle.
It’s hard to imagine that a woman with so much energy is able to sit still long enough to create colorful watercolor landscapes and impeccable writing, but Singer-Boocher does it. And her work, particularly her watercolor paintings, brings out the same joy that Singer-Boocher always seems to emanate. Full story »

Keeping The Faith: Larry Locke
Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008
Larry Locke is a senior pastor at Community Congregational Church in Naples. Locke has been working at the church since September and says he hopes to get the church more involved in the community.
Though Locke, 53, has been a minister for more than 20 years, he says that his life was not always on the straight-and-narrow. Once a collegiate basketball player and PGA professional, Locke says a lack of a strong moral compass led him to living homeless in Los Angeles.
In the following interview with The Banner, Locke shares how he turns his life around and talks about goals for the future of Community Congregational Church. Full story »
