Description: It’s hard to go wrong when you’re eating your dinner overlooking Estero Bay as the sun is setting. You can do exactly that at the Big Hickory Seafood Grille, a Bonita restaurant serving up seafood in a rustic, maritime setting. The cherry-colored wood bar comes complete with portholes and hanging from the wall are driftwood sculptures and a ship wheel. Watch the boats come and go while eating Florida lobster stew, Cubana grouper or any of the other specialties on the menu. There is both a lanai and covered outdoor seating if you want to be even closer to the water. The wine list features a number of distinctive California wines, like a Bouchaine Chardonnay and a Saintsbury Pinot Noir. Relax and enjoy…

Excellent food and great location. The staff has been very good on almost all occasions. They have had in the past an excellent Sunday brunch (I do not know if it is seasonal or if they still do it) and it is a great place for lunch and dinner. Although located on the water, be very careful around low tide as the area in front of the marina (even though dredged not too long ago) has been shoaling and we have gotten stuck (with a '27 I/O) a few times at mid to low tide going home by that area (at the intersection of Houge and Broadway channels where they go out towards the Big Hickory Pass). All in all, I recommend you try the Grille for it's great food and service.

I enjoy eating on the back porch with a view of the boats (and the almost tame large white heron that begs for fishy scraps), and I happily also eat indoors, a little more crowded, with it's rustic fishcamp like decoration.
This is a bit more upscale in it's offerings than just the "local fish place" it looks like at first glance..the chef puts out a more sophisticated product that will often exceed one's expectations.
Great soups (especially the seafood gumbo), great fresh fish entrees (like the yellowtail), some with mango in season, others entrees with varied fruits and veggies. Pass on the more traditional fried clams and try other things more challenging to the chef's talents and your palate, and you'll be pleasantly pleased. Good choice of beers and wines.
The cheesecake dessert was tasty.
Prices for entrees are higher than one might expect for this casual setting, yet they are in like with other restaurants in the area.
I've been 3 times to Big Hickory this year (taking friends for the atmosphere), and will continue to go back...especially enjoyable when you can arrive by boat a tthe docks!
