"Deputies have said Giracca was shot at 12:51 a.m. at the Gulfgate Plaza at the intersection of U.S. 41 East and Bayshore Drive after he rode up to three deputies on his bicycle while they conducted an unrelated traffic stop.
When deputies asked why he was there, they said Giracca reached into his backpack, got off his bicycle and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun. Deputies said they repeatedly told him to drop it, but he didn’t, so Cpl. Christopher D. Swarthout, Cpl. Jose A. Lopez and Deputy David J. Whitt fired multiple times and Lopez then rushed to his aid to stanch the blood flow. Officials later learned that Giracca was holding a pellet gun."
it doesnt say he pointed it at the officers. he could have taken it from some kids acting maliceously down the street and did not speak english. not a crime in the USA to not speak english. yes more info would dispell wild inuendo but those of us who have lived in Collier for a few decades know the attitude of CCSO. they dont enforce the law they ARE the law.
BTW some of you know i'm a white Conservative.

GoIndians
beenthere_56 too bad cant help you really
GoIndians, no you got it all wrong. operational money COMES from the state and federal coffers. all districts are given operational money based on the full time student count. capitol $ comes from local taxes as does some of the operational $.
my problem with all this is it is ALL taxpayer money and the state can regulate its use. in fact i believe THAT IS THEIR JOB!!! if the schools are hurting the state regulators should recognise that and they are saying its not a problem??? who to believe?

in fact people that have already voted, the budget has increased from $800 mill to $1.19 billion over the last few years. the "class size amendment" that you "early voter" boneheads approved should be repealed. the legislature could do that like they did the "bullet train".
but the FloriDUH voters just go for one lame proposal after another. pathetic!

bull, just_makin_it ! passing this gives power to the Admin! there is NO address for this measly amount of money! do the math if you are not a graduate of CCPS!
$1 billion. $19 mill??
chump change!!!
the State can change the ratio but they havent because they DO NOT SEE A PROBLEM with a 2% reduction. CCPS crys "broke!". BS

the referendum is not a tax increase just a test of how lame Collier voters are. there is plenty of money. if you vote no Thomson will punish your chrildren by eleminating programs. he will punish the CCPS workers. hopefully he will pop a brain vessel thinking about all the possibilities.
it is not the end of the world. make them do their job and bring CCPS accountability.
vote NO!

time to give it a rest Beetle. the State has finally taken notice that billions have been spent trying to educate a relatively few chrildren.
CCPS should be a shining example of what the public school system can offer but instead it is barely mediocore.
and the Admin says they don't have enough funding. LOL lets see what happens now.

3% but a pay your insurance plan. if the LCSD agreed to it they made out. will LCSD now go for a plan like the Teamsters offered CCPS? a no frills "free estimate" "we'll negotiate a lower fee that you have to pay if you go to our doctors" deal?
On Lee Schools employees may see 3-percent raise, lose some health benefits

oh and maybe i should have mentioned that i worked for the navy in sub ops and three officers firing mulitple rounds hitting the object 9 times and only putting him in the hospital is VERY poor aim. and poor reasoning.
one round should have accomplished the disired result.
